Jeffersonville, Indiana - John "Dennis" Popp, 75, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedicated service to his family, his country, and his community.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, John was a proud graduate of Scecina Memorial High School. Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country after being drafted in the United States Navy, where he honorably served during the Vietnam War. His time in the Navy forged in him a sense of duty, resilience, and camaraderie that never left him.
Following his military service, John began a long and successful career with the Old Indiana Bell Company, from which he eventually retired. But retirement didn't mean slowing down. Together with his dear friend, Dave Barned, he co-founded Rolling Rocks DJ Company, a venture that combined his love for music and celebration, which was a passion project that brought joy to countless gatherings. He was forever passionate about supporting his alma mater, Indiana University.
John was also deeply committed to supporting fellow veterans. He was a lifetime member and former Quartermaster of the VFW Post 1427 in Charlestown, where he found purpose in honoring and assisting those who served.
A man of quiet faith, John was Catholic and lived his life with compassion and gratitude. He met the love of his life, Ruth Rudie, on a blind date—a chance encounter that blossomed into a beautiful 54-year marriage full of devotion, partnership, and unconditional love.
John was a beloved husband, a proud father, a supportive brother, and a deeply cherished grandfather, who was known affectionately as "Popp-Pop." His greatest joy came from being surrounded by family and his beloved dogs, whether at holiday dinners, family vacations, or simple moments spent together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John E and Violet Popp; and sister, Carolyn Rich.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth Rudie Popp; his children, Kirsten Pfalzgraf (Daniel) and John Lennon Popp; his treasured grandchildren, Anna Pfalzgraf and Gabriel Pfalzgraf; and his loving sisters, Janet Steilberger and Mary Taylor.
