Funeral services for John William Purlee, 68, Henryville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Adams Family Funeral & Crematory, Henryville, with burial to follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Henryville. He passed away at Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Norton Audubon Hospital, Louisville.

Born Aug. 19, 1947 in Seymour, he was the son of Maurice E. Purlee and Ruby E. (Emerson) Elliott who are both deceased. John was a decorated veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he earned a Bronze Star with a 1st oak leaf cluster, Air Medal and a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from the State Highway Department.

Survivors include his loving companion of 30 years, Bonnie (Higdon) Burr, Henryville, Justin Applegate, Bowling Green, Ky., Jonathon Combs, Bowling Green, Ky., Dawn Michelle "Shelly" (Robin) Embry, Henryville, Trevis Burr, Scottsburg; five grandchildren, Tosha Embry, Sellersburg, Carissa Embry, Henryville, Tristan Burr, Brandon Burr, Samuel Belote, all of Scottsburg; three brothers, Paul Purlee, New Jersey, Phil (Melinda) Purlee, Fruitland, FL, and Jeff (Amy) Purlee, Salem.

Pastor Rodney Sweeney will conduct funeral services.

Visitaiton will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
