Georgetown, Indiana - It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Larry Lee Baumgartle, who departed this life on September 29, 2025, at the age of 87, and went to be with the Lord.
Larry was born on October 19, 1937 in Alexis, Illinois to Harry & Inez Baumgartle. He was the 4th of 7 children born to Harry and Inez. He was a man of quiet strength, deep wisdom, strong faith, and unwavering dedication to his family. A true pillar in our lives, he led with kindness, conviction, guiding generations with his stories, his example, and his unconditional love.
A graduate of Lanesville High School (IN), Larry continued his education at Purdue University where he earned his BS in agriculture education in 1959. He was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity and a loyal Purdue Boilermaker fan. He later went on to earn his administrative license and his Masters in Education from Indiana University. He taught welding, horticulture, and was the Vice-Principal of Prosser Education Center upon his retirement in 1995. Along with his educational achievements he was also a man of God and a full, faithful member of the Edwardsville United Methodist Church.
He was known as Pop to those closest to him, with a permanent flattop from an early age and was always sporting suspenders and a sharp pocket knife. Pop had a love for gardening and his home was always blooming with the most gorgeous flowers, fresh vegetables, and various plants that he graciously shared with his neighbors, family and friends. Pop always cheered for his Purdue Boilermakers, even amongst the few IU fans in the family. Pop was an avid reader and you could always find a western novel by his chair. Pop instilled many practical lessons and values into his family that still resonate today.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Twyla Baumgartle; son-in-law, Philip Henry; brother, Ken Baumgartle; and sister, Wanda (Robert) Hamilton.
Larry is survived by Connie, his beloved wife of 66 years, and by his children: Talara Henry & Timothy (Kathy) Baumgartle. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride, including: Ben (Rachelle) Henry, Ryan (Lauren) Henry, Abby (Ryan) Lauer, Morgan (Adam) Newton, and Evan (Samantha) Henry, along with nine great-grandchildren; Weston, Callen, Connor, Graham, Emerie, Mason, Mia, Miller, and Eli. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald (Jeannine) Baumgartle, brother, Allen (Pam) Baumgartle, sister, Phyllis (Keith) Schneider, sister, Norma Higdon, brother-in-law, Joe (Connie) Miller, sister-in-law, Lois Baumgartle and many nieces and nephews. His family was his life's work, and he gave to them his time, his laughter, his counsel, and his heart. His family and friends will happily remember time spent with him and will miss him tremendously.
