Larry F. Pearson, 87, of Sellersburg, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, surrounded by family. He loved horse racing, fantasy football, casino trips, hunting, fishing, and Indiana basketball.
Born in Houston, IN, Larry grew up in Seymour, lettering in track and basketball at Shields High School before joining the U.S. Navy. He married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Pollert, and together they raised three sons while living in locations around the world, including Bermuda, Iceland, and multiple U.S. bases.
Dental Technician Chief Pearson proudly served in special operations with the Marine Corps as a Navy Corpsman (medic) in Cuba, Vietnam and Lebanon. He earned numerous honors, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Star, National Defense Ribbon, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Award and United Nations Service Medal. After retiring, he worked for the U.S. Post Office. Following Katherine's passing, he shared nearly 30 years with his second wife, Sandra Riggle Spencer.
Larry was preceded in death by Katherine and Sandy, as well as his parents, William and Goldean Pearson.
He is survived by his sons, Joe Pearson (Jan Blake-Pearson), Jim Pearson (Marcy), and Jason Pearson (Christina); stepchildren, Kyle Spencer (Ana), Paula Stiglich (John), and Amie Jones; sister Vivian Schroer; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, with another on the way.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany, on Wednesday, February 12, from 2-5 p.m., with funeral services and military honors at 5 p.m. He will be interred at New Albany National Cemetery at a later date.
