It is with the deepest of sorrow we announce the passing of Frances Elizabeth McGinnis "Liz" on December 7, 2024, at the age 72. Liz was born December 2, 1952 to Oliver John Bush & Betty Jo Bush (Née Nelson) in Louisville, KY. Liz proudly went to Murray State University on a sharpshooter scholarship and obtained her BSN in 1976. She achieved her MSN-APRN at UT Austin in 1995.
Liz was part of the first group of Clinical Nurse Specialists to gain prescriptive authority in Texas in 1995. She was a brilliant Psychiatric CNS who spent the last 18 years working at UTMB in the corrections division. She worked at Austin State Hospital from 1991-2001 and for Travis Co, TX from 1991-2007. Liz refused to slow down or retire from practice because she truly loved what she did - helping others.
Liz vastly underestimated the impact she had on those around her and her value in this world. She was quick-witted, with a wry sense of humor. Liz would catch many off-guard with her acuity and cleverness because she often preferred to live in the shadows leading a, perceived, unassuming life. Her sweet smile sparkled and baby blues flashed with merriment and glee when she surprised people with her perspicacious insights. She loved life though and shined on the dance floor.
Liz was masterfully creative, and designed her own jewelry which was brought to life by the craftsman at Stall Jewelers and under the guidance of the owner, and friend, Norma Stall. Liz was extremely active, travelling all over the world, lived life to the fullest, and was also an ardent ballroom dancer. She attended Arthur Murray dance studio where her instructor, Dominic DiGesualdo, led her to compete in many dance competitions, including internationally. Liz and her husband, Crispin, also danced in the music video "Head Over Boots" by Jon Pardi, where you can see them gliding and spinning together in harmony.
Liz leaves behind her spouse, Crispin Höelscher, her son, Michael McGinnis (Lauren), stepson Vincent Höelscher, sisters Teresa Sparks and Kitty Owen (Jim), a special sisterhood friendship with Jude Delacruz, nieces LaDonna Wells (Tony) and Amanda Rueffer (Chance), great-nephews Nicholas and Joshua, and great-niece Amelia. She also leaves behind her precious cats, Siddhi and Sumana.
Liz would joke that when she reached her expiration date that she wanted to be "wheeled off a cliff" like in the old movies, or "thrown out with the trash/in a dumpster/in a ditch". Liz will be cremated despite her request to be "tossed out", but in honor of her wishes there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you light a candle on Christmas Day and think of Liz, as this was her favorite time of year.
