Clifton, VA - Margaret Angela ("Mitzi") McDonald, 78, of Clifton VA, passed away on April 30, 2026 in Clifton, Virginia. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1948, the younger of two children of Edward Armstead Wood and Mary Margaret Wood, née Fahey. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Alan McDonald; two sons, Angus McDonald and lain McDonald (and his wife Jessica); and five grandchildren: Kaleb McDonald, Hannah Sitko, Ewan McDonald, Adaline McDonald, and Isla McDonald, all of whom reside in northern Virginia. She is also survived by her brother Philip Fahey Wood (and his wife Sandra) of Louisville, Kentucky. She was the sister-in-law of Janet (McDonald) Schlageter, Mary Catherine (McDonald) Johantgen, Kevin McDonald, and Brian McDonald, all of whom reside in southern Indiana, and Douglas McDonald who predeceased her. Mitzi spent the first 27 years of her life in New Albany, Indiana. In 1966, Mitzi graduated from New Albany High School and graduated from Indiana University in 1970 with a B.A. in English. On June 8, 1968, Mitzi married Alan McDonald at Holy Family Church in New Albany.

Mitzi was a lifelong teacher who throughout her career taught in Catholic schools. In 1975, she accompanied her husband, a Special Agent in the FBI, to northern Ohio, and lived in Westlake, Ohio, from 1975-1986, where she taught school. In 1986, when her husband was assigned to FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., she moved to Clifton, Virginia. In 1997, she began a 23-year teaching career at Seton School in Manassas, Virginia, where she taught English, Religion, and Earth Science. She also introduced Astronomy into the Seton School curriculum which she taught for a number of years. Mitzi was a member of the Sacred Music Choir at St. Andrew the Apostle Church for 20 years. A visitation will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, Virginia 22032 on Wednesday, May 6th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 7th at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 6720 Union Mill Rd., Clifton, VA 20124 at 10:30AM. Burial will be at St. Mary of Sorrows Cemetery, 5612 Ox Rd., Fairfax Station, Virginia 22039. A full Obituary is online on legacy.com.
