Mary "Sue" Kinney Obituary

Sellersburg, Indiana - Mary Sue Kinney, lovingly known as Sue, passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born on May 14, 1941, in Hopkinsville, KY, to Hazel Wilma Parsons and Benjamin Parsons, who both preceded her in death.

Sue met the love of her life, Gilbert "Gib" Kinney, in Lexington, KY. The two married on June 14, 1969, and began their life together in Nitro, WV. In June 1970, they welcomed their daughter, Vanessa, and in September 1976, their son, Nathan, was born after the family relocated to Orange Park, FL. In 1978, they made their final move to Southern Indiana, where they lived in New Albany until 1998 before settling in Sellersburg, IN.

Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Gib Kinney; her daughter, Vanessa (Glenn); her son, Nathan (Shelley) Kinney; and her cherished grandchildren: Collin Braswell, Addison Braswell, and two bonus grandsons, Grant (Kassidey) Dethy and Aidan Dethy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lucille Parsons, along with numerous other family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Benjamin R. Parsons and William D. Parsons.

Sue had a rich and fulfilling career, starting in retail and later becoming a real estate agent in Southern Indiana. She also worked at Obelisk Credit Union. Beyond her professional life, Sue had a passion for community service and volunteering. She served as the Stars of Tomorrow Pageant Director, PTO President at Mt. Tabor Elementary School, and a member of the Welcome Wagon of Southern Indiana. Sue was an active member of the Southern Indiana Realtors Association and held roles as Vice-President and Board of Director for the Harvest Homecoming Festival. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she served the Lord in many capacities as a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Sue's warm spirit, dedication to her family, and love for her community will be deeply missed. Her legacy of kindness and service will live on through the countless lives she touched.

Visitation will be from 1-6 PM on Sunday, December 29th, 2024, at the Market Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes.

Her funeral service will be held at 6 PM Sunday in the Market Street Chapel.

Burial services will take place on Monday at 10:30 (EDT) at Oak Grove Cemetery in Palestine, Illinois.

Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
