Max A. Petry was born June 17, 1943 in Clay County, IN where he grew up in Clay City until his family moved to New Albany in 1960.
Max graduated from New Albany High School in 1961. He was involved in many professional and community organizations. Max served as President of the New Albany City Council, New Albany Plan Commission, Hoosier Knobs Car Club and the Floyd County Young Republicans. He also served on many boards such as The New Albany Floyd County Parks Board, Falls City Purdue Club, Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, New Albany Jaycees and the Floyd Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
He served several terms as Trustee and Elder of his former church. Max served as Vice Chairman of the Floyd County Republican Party for many years during the 1980s. He was active for many years in John Purdue Club, Lincoln and Continental Owner's Club, Kyanna Region AACA, and a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 39. He received numerous awards such as Outstanding Young Man of America, State of Indiana's Sagamore of the Wabash, Kentucky Colonel, Louisville's Ambassador of Goodwill and New Albany's River Boat Pilot.
Max retired from International Harvester. He loved watching Purdue sports. Max attended the Charlestown Road Church of Christ in New Albany.
Max was preceded in death by his father, Raymond E. Petry, and mother, Mary Lou (Tiefel) Petry; and brothers, Robert, Donald, and Merrill Gene Petry; and his best four-legged friend, Winnie.
Max is survived by his wife, Lavonne (Roark) Petry; son Patrick and wife Anna (Childress); and granddaughters, Emery and Eloise.
All services will be held at Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes, Oak Street Chapel, 1846 E Oak Street, New Albany. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. and Friday March 14, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens, 3600 Kamer Miller Road, New Albany.
