Melba June 'M.J.' Bonsett Obituary
A celebration of life for Melba June "M.J." Bonsett will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel in Jeffersonville. She died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.. She was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Columbus, to James and Ida Mace and had 10 siblings.. She owned and operated a retail merchandising business for several years and worked with AAFES, Region 5. With her husband, she owned, managed and marketed real estate properties. She was a member of Morton Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 20 years and, more recently, a member of Park Memorial United Methodist Church. While at Morton, she served on several committees including pastor parish relations, finance, worship and volunteered and actively supported the community kitchen. She also worked extensively to procure property for Morton Memorial United Methodist Church. She volunteered with the Jeffersonville Red Cross Disaster Service and assisted in establishing an office for financial development for the Louisville Area American Red Cross. Having lived through World War II encouraged her to become a charter member of the WW II Museum in New Orleans. She was also instrumental in helping establish the Glen L. and M.J. Bonsett Award for Outstanding Track and Field Athletes at Hanover College. She had a talent for home decorating, enjoyed music and dancing, traveling and a sunny beach. At home she enjoyed the birds, squirrels, rabbits and had special love for her pups Angel and Sugar.. Survivors include her brother John Mace and wife Janet, of Columbus; sister Martha Kinsey, of Columbus; husband Glen L. Bonsett; their five jointly shared children Debra Stevens and husband Jerry, Anthony Wilkerson and wife Connie, Sandi Webster and husband Jack, Andrea Tarpley and husband Bill and Candi Gray and husband Marc. "Toasty" had great affection for this extended family and her 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.. Visitation will be from 10:30 until time of service Thursday.. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus, 624 E.
