Michael "Mike" Patrick Dys Obituary
Jeffersonville, Indiana - Michael "Mike" Patrick Dys, 76, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 3, 1949, Mike was a dedicated production worker at the Colgate plant and a man of steadfast routines. For over 30 years, he was a fixture at Perrin Park, where he walked three miles every day, and he took great pride in completing two Kentucky Derby mini-marathons. A massive sports fan, Mike lived for Indiana Hoosiers basketball, Cincinnati Reds baseball, and a good round of golf.
Though he moved on from his hometown, Mike never lived down his roots; as the only one in his circle from across the line, he was jokingly known to everyone as "Mike Dys from New Albany," a nod to his pride for the New Albany Bulldogs. He was also a frequent visitor to the Horseshoe Casino, where he had a knack for the slots. Ever the generous soul, Mike never kept a big win to himself, famously using his winnings to buy coffee for his entire crew the following morning.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Fern Dys; his brothers, Randy Kay (Amy) and Ronnie Kay (Lois); cousins, Gary LaDuke and Terry LaDuke; sisters-in-law, Paula Adams (Paul) and Frances Duley (Jamie); and nephews, Dalton Duley (Hailey) and Aaron Morrison (Jen). He was preceded in death by his son, Justin Patrick Dys, and his mother, Lee Ann Kay.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Utica Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
