Funeral services for Newton Augusta "Bud" Patton, 87, Charlestown, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Henryville, with burial in Bowery Cemetery. He passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 21, 2016, at Kentuckiana Medical Center, Clarksville.
Born April 10, 1928, in New Albany, he was the son of Van O. Patton and Mae Belle Carmikle Patton who are both deceased.
Bud was a Clark County resident most of his life besides living in Texas from 1997 to 2010. He married Anna Belle Harrell Patton and shared 47 years together. She preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 1996. On May 10, 1997, in Chandler, Texas, he married Paula Brandel Patton who survives in Navarre, Ohio.
Bud served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on Aug. 20, 1946. He was a retired truck driver and a mechanic for 27 years for CT Hertzch in Sellersburg. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Memphis, American Legion Post 204, Sellersburg, and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, old country music, southern gospel, bluegrass music, bird watching, all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, a daughter, Sharon Lynn O'Brien and her husband, James, Charlestown; two step-daughters, Johanna Heppel, Loleta, Calif., and Helena Webber, Navarre, Ohio; five grandchildren, James O'Brien and his wife, Susan, Austin, Kimberly Kirkland and her husband, Keith, Pekin, Tina Warford, Henryville, Pamela K. Miles and her husband, Darrell, Charlestown, and Regina Dennison, Henryville; 11 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Geneva Wells, Floyds Knobs.
He was also preceded in death by five siblings, Pauline Tyree, Bernice Morris, Esther Armstrong, Thelma Anson and Mary Christmas, and a great-grandchild, Shanna Lynn O'Brien in 2000.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be given to Bowery Cemetery c/o the funeral home.
