Ralph E. Guthrie, 86, of Henryville, IN, passed away peacefully at 11:35 a.m. on November 7, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 6, 1937, to his parents, James D. and Hazel (Lucas) Guthrie.

Ralph was a dedicated and hardworking individual, co-owning Guthrie Building Supply for over 30 years. In 1957 he married Judy (McIlvoy) Guthrie in their hometown of Henryville. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2017. After their marriage they spent the next 60 years building a loving home and family where they instilled their love for God and to keep family close.

Ralph was a proud 1955 graduate of Henryville High School and later attended Indiana University, where he played basketball during his freshman year. He was an active member of the Henryville Community Church. He was known as the "Henryville Legend" for his tireless dedication to the community. He served on the Clark County School Board for eight years and as Clark County Commissioner for 16 years. Ralph's swimming pool and basketball court were open to the community, and he was always willing to provide personal coaching tips to those who played on his court. He had boundless enthusiasm for the sport of pickleball that he shared with his family and brother and doubles partner, Jimmy. Together, they achieved a remarkable feat by winning the U.S. Open Pickleball National Championship in Naples, FL, in 2017 and 2019. He and Judy cherished the warm Florida sun and beaches, spending their winters in their condominium.

Ralph was a family-oriented man who treasured spending time with his loved ones. He is survived by his loving children, Jerry (Cathy) Guthrie, Ralph T. (Kim) Guthrie, Christopher (Yvonne) Guthrie, Juliana (Jason) Mick, and Jessica Guthrie; 13 grandchildren; 18 cherished great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Jimmy (Martha) Guthrie, Marie (Charles) Smith, and Leroy (Sue) Guthrie.

Ralph Guthrie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy (McIlvoy) Guthrie, his parents James D. and Hazel (Lucas) Guthrie, an infant sister, Janet Guthrie, and siblings, Anna Hardy Woods, Warren "Bud" Guthrie, Ernest Guthrie, Alice Steele, and Christina Munk.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Henryville Community Church, followed by burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects from 2 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Henryville and also from 2 p.m. until the time of the service Sunday, at Henryville Community Church.

Ralph Guthrie's legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
