Richard Maxwell Obituary

Richard Howard Maxwell, 98, died at his home January 17, 2025.

Dick was born October 27, 1926, Indianapolis, IN, to Warren and Patia (Breedlove) Maxwell.

He was a Navy Veteran of WW II, a farmer, high school teacher, and a college professor, retiring from Indiana University Southeast. He was a graduate of Wabash College (MA), and Southern Illinois University (Ph.D.).

A botanist, Dick loved being out in nature. He had done field work in Sri Lanka, and Central and South America.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Maxwell, and his sister, Patia Crawford.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean Maxwell; his two nieces, Linda and Jenni Heisler; two nephews, Ned Heisler, and Kurt (Karen) Heisler; great-nephews, Garrett and Conner Heisler; and great-niece, Halli Heisler.

His family wishes to acknowledge his loving caregivers, Katie Spillman, Tina Vandersall, and the late Robert Valentine.
