Henryville, Indiana - Ryan Patrick McMinoway, 31, of Henryville, IN, passed away at 1820 hrs. 18 July 2018 of complications from lack of oxygen to the brain after losing pulse and respirations from an unknown cause on 25 June 2018 despite the valiant efforts of two Army comrades, he was visiting in Deridder, LA.
Born October 29, 1986, in New Albany, IN, he was the son of Gary and Linda (Ledbetter) McMinoway of Henryville, IN.
Ryan graduated from Henryville IN High School in 2004. He wanted to join the US Army immediately like his idol his older brother Kevin had, but his parents begged him not to at least until Kevin came home from Iraq. When Kevin came home and was stationed at RTB Camp Merrill GA, Ryan enlisted in 2009. He took OSET at Ft. Benning, trained and helped train troops at Grafenwoehr, Germany and was deployed to Afghanistan where he performed duties of mortar man, gunner, scout, and then as team leader. His decorations include: AAM, ARCOM, Afghan campaign 2 stars, NDSM, ASR, OSR with #2 Device, IASF Article 5, GWOT Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Gold Schutzenschur, and Combat Spurs. Ryan was a diesel mechanic and a student at IUS, studying business management and psychology. He enjoyed guns, shooting, reading, writing, hiking, and cooking. He dearly loved his puppy, Mara.
Other survivors include one brother, Kevin (Melanie) McMinoway of Clarksville, IN; grandparents, Betty Ledbetter, St. George, UT, Arthur and Jeani Sumner of Jeffersonville, IN, Danny Ledbetter of St. George, UT.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Homer and Mattie McMinoway, and Roger Ledbetter.
Funeral services will be conducted for Ryan on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and after noon on Sunday, all at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Henryville, IN. Military graveside services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, IN.
