Sherman J Patterson Obituary

Jeffersonville, IN - Sherman J. Patterson, age 88, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Born in Bethlehem, Indiana, to the late James and Agatha Patterson, Sherman lived a life marked by service, humility, and unwavering devotion to his faith and family.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Sherman served his country with honor before beginning a long and distinguished career with the United States Postal Service, where he was a faithful and familiar face as a mail carrier for many years. He found joy in the simple things—hard work, a good story, and time with those he held dear.

Sherman had a deep and abiding love for the great outdoors, whether it was the stillness of a morning hunt or the quiet rhythm of casting a line. He especially cherished the time spent hunting and fishing alongside his son, Tony, bonding moments that became treasured traditions and lifelong memories. Those peaceful adventures were where stories were told, life lessons shared, and a father's love passed down from generation to generation.

More than 65 years ago, Sherman's life was forever changed when he met his future bride, Sandrea "Sandy" Patterson, while cruising the Ranch House. What began as a chance meeting grew into a lifetime of love, partnership, and family. Together, they built a home full of laughter, warmth, and steadfast love.

Sherman was the definition of a devoted husband, loving father, and treasured Paw Paw and Pops. His family was his greatest joy, and his presence brought strength, wisdom, and a quiet sense of calm. He lived out his days in faithful service—not only to his country but to his community and to God. A longtime member of Sunnyside Assembly of God, Sherman could always be found with a gentle spirit and a heart open to others.

Left to carry forward his legacy of kindness and faith are his beloved wife, Sandy Patterson; his children, Diane Patterson Grover (Mark) and Anthony "Tony" Patterson (Lisa); his grandchildren, Chelsea Stengel (Jake), Mark "Austin" Grover, and Ashley "Nicole" Patterson (Zakary); and his great-grandchildren, Collin Stengel and Claire Stengel. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Patricia Neeley (Phil) and Robert "Bob" Patterson, along with many extended family and friends who will miss his steady presence and kind heart.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana. A celebration of Sherman's life will take place at 12 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the funeral home, with burial to follow.
