New Albany, IN - Mrs. Sonja Nay Wise, age 87, of New Albany, Indiana, formerly of Deputy, Indiana, entered this life on June 7, 1938 in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Hubert Verner and Edna Cox Nay.

She grew up in Deputy, Indiana and graduated from Deputy High School in 1956 and was raised in the Deputy United Methodist Church. She attended Depauw University and Purdue University earning a master's degree in education. In June of 1960, she was united in marriage to Charles B. Wise at Deputy United Methodist Church. This marriage was blessed with a daughter, Robin, and a son, Kevin. Sonja retired from Purdue University after 21 years of service as an academic counselor. She had formerly taught school for two years, at Furman High School in Sumter, South Carolina. She then taught at Fowler High School in Benton County for four years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Albany, Indiana and formerly a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette. Sonja was also, a member of Tri Kappa, the greater Louisville Delta Zeta Alumni Chapter, P. E. O. Sisterhood, and Delta Zeta National Sorority.

She enjoyed volunteering, playing the piano, watching all sports on TV, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She had resided in the New Albany area the past 18 years. Sonja died on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10:40 p.m. at the Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany, Indiana.

Sonja will be missed by her loving son, Kevin Wise and his wife Marsha of Mason, Ohio; her loving daughter, Robin Long and her husband Chuck of Sellersburg, Indiana; grandchildren, Justin Wise (Ashley), Lauren Wise, Olivia Wise, Alex Long (Moriah), Sarah Long Lee (Dalton), and Emma Long; her great-granddaughter, Eleanor Wise; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Hubert Verner Nay, died 1969, her mother, Edna Cox Nay, died 1985, her brother, Donald Robert Nay, died 1942, her sister, Betty Nay Gaffney died, November 21, 2017 and her husband, Bob, died July 30, 2015, her companion, Jim Stark, died April 25, 2025.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Tom McGilliard at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 2796 Charlestown Road in New Albany, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery near Deputy, Indiana. Friends may visit Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 2796 Charlestown Road in New Albany, Indiana.
