Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Steven Thomas Furnish, 77, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away on Thursday, March 5th, 2026.

He was born March 7th, 1949 in New Albany, IN. He is the son of Herman "Red" Furnish and Frances (Appell) Furnish, both who preceded him in death.

Steve graduated from Henryville High School in 1967 and also attended St. Paul Catholic School in Sellersburg. After graduating, he attended Indiana University, where he graduated with a Master's degree in education. He taught at Stout Elementary School in Sellersburg, IN, before moving to New York.

When Steve moved to New York, he worked in retail at high-end stores such as Gucci, Neiman Marcus, and Lieber Purses. After the attack on September 11th, he decided to move to Florida.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara (Furnish) Gilley, niece, Lisa (Furnish) Guthrie, nephews, Mark (Janna) Furnish, Gregory (Shelly) Furnish, Erik (Kathy) Furnish, Jon (Michelle) Banet, Steve (Crystal) Banet, brother-in-law, Joe Banet, sister-in-law, Janice Furnish, and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman "Red" Furnish and Frances (Appell) Furnish, sister, Sandra (Furnish) Banet, brother, Francis "Butch" Furnish, brother-in-law, Henry Gilley, and longtime friend, Joseph Lawrence "Loren" Falkenbach.

Funeral mass will be held on at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Steve may be given to WHAS Crusade for Children.
