Columbia, SC - Sue ZurSchmiede, of Columbia, South Carolina, and formerly of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was the daughter of Jack and Stacia ZurSchmiede, and was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Nancy Gardner, and her brother, John ZurSchmiede Jr. She is survived by her wife, Lynn Black. Sue was a devoted volunteer. She spent countless hours repairing books for the library, helping with children's programs and caring for plants at Saluda Shoals Park and assisting the director of volunteers at a local hospital. Sue adored her family, cherishing every moment with her nieces, nephews, and their children. She found joy in kayaking, working in her yard, birding, as well as puzzles and games. Her warmth, kindness, and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC or Saluda Shoals Park.
