Twyla Sue Walker Obituary
New Albany, Indiana - Twyla Sue Walker, 83, will be remembered for always having a smile on her face, being polite, friendly and ready to help anyone. You could catch her driving about town in her 1965 yellow Mustang and later her Miata.
As a youth she was active in rainbow girls and girl scouts. Pictures/yearbooks of her years at Knightstown are displayed in the "Hoosiers Gym." She was a descendant of John Potts for which Pottstown and Pottsville Pennsylvania are named.
Twyla worked in the medical field for 51 years. She started nursing school at Ball Memorial Hospital, later working in the lab at Floyd Memorial Hospital. She gained more experience at Jewish Hospital and was a Medical Assistant/Office Manager in a Plastic Surgery office. She really enjoyed surgical aspects of medical care, and retired after years of working at Kleinert Kutz Hand Care.
She was an avid reader of political figures and recreational material. She enjoyed gardening, scrap-booking, collecting dolls, puzzles, antiquing, good/quality food, arts/crafts/music/food festivals, travel, bed and breakfasts, chaperoning school trips at Slate Run and Scribner Junior High trips to Chicago, Colonial Williamsburg, and Washington D.C.. She enjoyed Gaylord OpryLand Resort and her favorite, West Baden Springs. She spent many summers with her family on their Houseboat at Dale Hollow Lake.
She was extremely dedicated and supportive in various family activities including swimming, orchestra, Job's Daughters, and the numerous hours spent being a horse show mom - organizing/buying food, attending shows, preparing clothing/quick clothing changes between classes. Her caring and attentive nature resulted in her hosting a French student for over a year.
Twyla was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who actively participated in the lives of her grandsons ensuring she never missed a birthday or holiday. She had a talent for selecting the perfect card/gift, including a Kringle that suited the season or occasion.
Twyla is survived by her loving husband of nearly 62 years, Jerry Walker; daughter, Julie (Dr. Jeffrey Schabler) Walker; her grandsons, Colten Schabler and Westen Schabler; and her feline companion, Mojo.
Cremation was chosen following Twyla's wishes. She will be laid to rest at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
